Password Protecting an Adobe PDF File

Step 1: Open Your PDF in Adobe Acrobat

  1. Launch Adobe Acrobat (not Acrobat Reader; it must be Acrobat Pro or Standard).
  2. Open the PDF you want to protect.

Step 2: Apply Password Protection

  1. Click File > Protect Using Password.
  2. A prompt will appear asking if you want to protect the document for:
    • Viewing (Requires a password to open the PDF)
    • Editing (Restricts modifications but allows viewing)
  3. Select Viewing (if you want full protection).
  4. Enter a strong password and confirm it.
  5. Click Apply.

Step 3: Save the Secured PDF

  1. Click File > Save As.
  2. Choose the location to save your protected file.
  3. Click Save.

Step 4: Test the Password Protection

  1. Close the PDF.
  2. Reopen it to ensure it asks for a password.
  3. Enter the password to verify that it works.
