AWB Epson Matrix Printer Setup, Proper Settings, & Troubleshooting

Modified on Tue, 6 Feb, 2024 at 12:56 PM

This document covers the setup and troubleshooting methods for the Epson AWB Matrix printer. To start off, the settings for this printer should look identical to the image below:

  1. The Font should be set to Roman
  2. The Pitch should be set to 10cpi
  3. The Tear Off/Bin should be set to Tear Off Mode when not in Bin1, and set to Tear Off when it IS in Tear Off Mode.
    1. Tear off Mode is the mode the paper is adjusted to when aligned with the edge of the plastic used to rip the paper. It is important to have the printer in Tear Off Mode (press the Set button in the Tear Off/Bin section; this should have 2 lights appear) so paper can come out properly.

Next, ensure the lever is set to FF-Push with the arrow pointing left. This is to set the gears to connect to the back of the printer so it can grab the paper and push it in and out the top:

Once these settings are done, make sure the paper is adjusted properly and the text comes out properly aligned. Use the Micro Adjust to adjust where the paper goes; THERE ARE 2 VERSIONS OF MICRO ADJUSTMENTS. The next section will cover this.

Adjusting Microfeed/Micro Adjust:

To adjust the microfeed while in Tear Off/Bin mode, do the following:

  1. Press the Set button in the Tear Off/Bin section to set the printer in Tear Off Mode. Then, two green lights should pop up.
  2. Press and hold the 3sec button for 3 seconds; this should pause the printer and set it to a menu (not visible, but you can see if it's in this mode if the Pause light is on)
  3. Click on either Load/Eject or LF/FF to move the paper up and down until satisfied.
  4. When satisfied, press the 3sec button to save the settings and set it back. Press the Load/Eject button once, then when the paper finishes moving, press it again to reset it. Then press the Tear Off/Bin button.

This will adjust where the top of the paper goes when the Tear Off/Bin lights are on.

To adjust the microfeed while in Bin1 mode, do the following:

  1. Make sure the printer is in Bin1 mode (both lights off)

This will adjust where the paper goes when loaded, and does dictate where the text appears. NOTE: YOU MAY NEED TO ADJUST THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND DO TEST PRINTS TO ENSURE THE TEXT APPEARS IN THE RIGHT AREA.

What To Do After Printing:

After printing and tearing off the paper, make sure you set it back to be ready for another print. To do this, do the following:

  1. Press Load/Eject button twice - make sure to let the paper finish moving around before pressing it the second time.
  2. This should reload the paper in Bin1 mode and clear any misalignments that were done.
  3. Press the Tear Off/Bin button to set the printer to that mode. This will make the paper ready for the next print.

This should be done every time you print.
